The Maine Adventure Begins

WEATHER:  Overcast and drizzle.

The Adventuresome Jan & Curt
Oplan was to depart Point Pleasant at around 4:00 AM; so much for 'the best laid plans." Unfortunately, the overnight storm, with its torrential rains had rippped the cockpit cover on Jannie's kayak to shreds, and it had to be replaced. Fortunately, we had a spare, but it took about 40 minutes of working in the dark, hanging on the side of the car to get the new cockpit cover secured. Once that was done, we were on our way at about 4:50 AM. It was still "COD", "crack of dawn as we headed north. Fortunately the trip was uneventful, and we arrived at the Cracker Barrel in Sturbridge, Massachusettes for breakfast at around 8:50 AM, so let the eating begin.
DeLorme, The Map Store
The second half of our trek north was also uneventful, no complaints there!  Before arriving in Freeport, of L.L.Bean fame, we stopped at DeLorme, the Map Store in Yarmouth where we were awed by Eartha, The World’s Largest Revolving and Rotating Globe.

Enough culture, now off to Gritty McDuff;'s Brew Pub in Freeport, for a well deserved lunch.

The Maine Idyll, Cabin #1
After lunch we checked in at the Maine Idyll, our Freeport "home away from home."  New additions, this year included WiFi in the cabin and a Flat Screen TV with HD service.  Now off to Beans, where we each returned a couple of items, again attesting to Bean's "unconditional guarantee. What to do next, why eat of course, so it was off to Cafe 233 in Yarmouth  for dinner.  Afterwards, we headed back to our Maine Idyll cabin, where we spent the rest of the evening watching the 2012 London Olympics in high definition.  In hindsight, today/tonight's activities sound more like a "Seinfeld" episode, rather than a vacation day, you know, a day about "nothing."  Well, can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
